It is a berry that can reach 250
grams of weight. The skin is yellow to orange when ripe, although there are red or purple varieties. Its rind is thick and represents 50 to 60% of the weight of the fruit. The edible part is the pulp. Gelatinous, reddish or orange in color, it houses about 200 to 300 dark brown to black seeds. The taste is exotic, bittersweet and refreshing. The pulp and juice represent 30 to 40% of the total weight. The seeds are very aromatic, contain oils and proteins and sound crisp in the mouth when tasted.
