Physalis-
Physalis fruits are globular, wrapped in brown to a yellow cape (calyx) that forms a delicate and sharp lantern shape. The skin of the fruit is initially waxy and slightly sticky when removed from the peel, giving way to a smooth consistency. The peel changes from green, orange-yellow to golden yellow when mature. Below the peel, the flesh is watery, smooth, pale green to yellow, and filled with many small, crunchy, edible cream-colored seeds. It has a musky and tropical fragrance, with a sweet, sour, and sour taste. The complex flavor of the fruit is composed of notes of pineapple, tomato, citrus, guava, strawberry, and has a floral finish.
